Methodology PDF Print E-mail
ImageWe have adopted the moderate communicative methodology of teaching Spanish as a foreign language. This is inserted into an immersion system, i.e. instruction is completely in Spanish.
We believe that in order to teach a foreign language it is necessary to use examples that are concrete, real, varied, motivating and placed in context. They must be practical so the students can interact in any type of every day situation.

The teachers place the students in different situations with activities that make them practice message-production abilities (oral and written expression) and reception abilities (audio and reading comprehension).
Through samples of real Spanish the students progressively learn the rules of grammar which are later confirmed and corrected by the teacher.  We also emphasize student practice over memorization of grammar.

Our classes are based on the “didactic unit”. This unit incorporates the pragmatic abilities (different acts of speech such as greetings or asking for directions), grammar, vocabulary, phonology and cultural references, all of them integrated as a unit.  We present the grammar rules and some systematization exercises within the same topic of the unit in a manner that integrates them into the class.

On the other hand we consider that culture and language are linked and are impossible to separate. This is especially true in a language course that follows a communicative methodology due to the importance of situational and cultural context and interaction. Culture influences and determines the way people use a language. At Escuela Fronteras we encourage the students not only to practice the language but also to immerse themselves in the local culture, both Chilean and Latin American.

Testimonials

Birgit Jaschke Germany
During my four week in Santiago de Chile I had a fantastic time. I fell in love with the country and its residents and in the end I extended my stay for another month. My teachers were very really professional and absolutely patient with their students. I can definitely recommend everybody to come and visit Chile!
